Thai operator True Corp revealed ambitions to reduce e-waste dumping into landfills to zero by 2030, as it launched a campaign to spur customers to donate old devices to collection points.
True will make available 154 collection drop-off points nationwide, in collaboration with All Now Logistics and Total Environmental Solutions, to handle the logistic and recycling operations. Customers will also gain rewards from a range of restaurants and retail partners.
True Corp CEO Manat Manavutiveth noted True and dtac handle “over millions of mobile phones and devices annually” and they have the “responsibility to appropriately manage e-Waste” based on international standards.
The chief executive added the e-waste campaign is a result of two organisations combining to “enhance e-waste management” by expanding drop-off points nationwide.
True Corp head of sustainability division Dr Piyaporn Pasakanon said the e-waste initiative began in June and aligns with wider goals to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030.
True and dtac completed their merger in March this year becoming the largest operator by subscribers with a base of 55 million.
