Globe unveils 5G VoNR upgrade

Globe Telecom showcased Voice over New Radio (VoNR) in the Philippines as it moves to enhance its service against rival offerings.

In a statement, the Philippines-based operator said the launch of VoNR marked a “significant step forward in voice communication technologies” as it uses standalone 5G networks for “enhanced voice quality, rapid call setup, and seamless handovers”.

Globe said VoNR is capable of delivering “crystal-clear” audio with minimal distortion, and simultaneous voice - by optimising bandwidth usage.

The technology was created in partnership with HPE Singapore using their 5G in a Box solution and a VoNR-capable mobile device (pictured, below).

Globe did not disclose a timeframe of when it will make available to subscribers its new voice call upgrade.

"Globe's successful deployment of VoNR technology is a testament to our commitment to innovation and to providing our customers with the best telecom experience possible," said Globe director, and head of technology strategy and innovation, Gerhard Tan.

He added: "VoNR is not just about improved voice quality and faster connections— it's about the future of integrated communication. By harnessing the power of 5G, we're opening up a world of possibilities for both our enterprise and individual customers and redefining what's possible with voice services.”
