Globe Telecom reportedly saw a surge of over three million sign-ups on deadline day for SIM card registrations in the Philippines.
ABS CBN News reported the operator saw 3.34 million customers register their SIM cards on the last day (July 25), with another 452,997 a day later, followed by 126,344 the next day. In total, Globe reported a total of 52 million subscribers have registered their SIM cards as of July 27.
Rival operator and PLDT-owed Smart Communications said in a statement it is continuing to register customers after regulator DICT announced a five-day grace period for unregistered SIMs, with a new hard deadline being set for July 30, when all unregistered SIM cards will be deactivated permanently.
The operator did not provide an update on the number of registered subscribers on its books.
