CelcomDigi boasts over 20m subscribers

CelcomDigi revealed in the first half of the year it saw a gain of 391,000 subscribers taking its total to 20.48 million since its mega-merger six months ago, as it reported its H1 results.

In a statement, CelcomDigi reported it saw revenue growth of 0.3% to MYR5.4 billion (US$1.1 billion), which was fuelled by “unique value propositions”.

EBITDA and profit after tax grew 1.8% and 6.5% to MYR2.9 billion and MYR1 billion, respectively in the half.

The company stated it had invested MYR252 million in capex equating to 8.1% of total revenues in Q2 to upgrade network capacity and ongoing integration of Celcom and Digi’s operations. Capex is forecast to rise in the remaining two quarters of full year 2023, as key projects began in June.

Network integration is 60% complete, with plans to also modernise over 2,000 cell sites in 24 clusters. The operator claimed network experience has improved for customers, and it aims to boost coverage from 96% to 98%.

CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said: “We are pleased to continue to deliver both topline and bottom line growth while pushing ahead with integration of our networks, IT and organisation at the same time. Our customers remain the centre of focus – by efficiently harmonising backend operations and processes, we are able to better serve customers, deliver more value and converged products to customers, improve customer service, and modernise retail touchpoints and channels.

“Network integration and modernisation initiatives are progressing in full speed as we continue to provide elevated network experience to our customers on the nation’s fastest, widest and most modern 4G network.”
