NTT announces plans for sixth Malaysian data centre

Leading IT infrastructure and services company NTT says it has expanded its hyperscaler footprint in Malaysia with its sixth data centre facility.

The construction of the data centre has now begun in Cyberjaya, which is located 20 minutes from the heart of Kuala Lumpur and described as Malaysia's global tech hub. This development follows hard on the heels of the completion of NTT’s fifth data centre in 2021.

NTT has said it plans to invest over US$50 million for the new data centre, known as Cyberjaya 6 (CBJ6). It complements CBJ5 which covers just under 20,000  square metres with a total facility load of 22MW when combined with CBJ6. The facility will cater to hyperscalers and high-end enterprises.

The optical submarine cable MIST1 between Malaysia, Singapore and India, which is currently under construction, will enable connectivity between CBJ5 and CBJ6 to further enhance Malaysia’s network connectivity globally and build sustainable socio-economic impact. NTT says it will continue to expand its cable capacity.

Nor is the environment overlooked. NTT, through its NTT Green Innovation Toward 2040 vision aims for carbon neutrality for its data centres by FY2030 and for the whole NTT Group by FY2040. Malaysia has also set itself targets, committing to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

NTT adds that over the past 30 years it has been expanding its footprint in Malaysia, making the nation’s vision a reality through public-private partnership, and that it plans to continue to contribute towards the nation’s digital ecosystem.
