Data centre MoU targets Saudi market

Al Nowais Group, which supplies high-technology solutions to the UAE and Saudi Arabian governments in a number of different sectors, and Aurum Equity Partners, a prominent US private equity firm, have announced a data-centre-focused memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Al Nowais Group was represented by its subsidiary Emirates United Economy, which is based in Saudi Arabia.

The MoU says the companies will jointly invest in an advanced 50MW next-generation data centre in Saudi Arabia, with a focus, the partners say, on innovation, sustainability and security.

The companies say that this partnership, described as groundbreaking, emphasises their commitment to tech advancement and sustainability. The vision for this data centre includes advanced technologies such as edge computing for real-time data processing, software-defined infrastructure for agility, and AI and machine learning to optimise operations.

In addition, the integration of green technologies, such as energy-efficient cooling systems and renewable energy, will reduce carbon footprints and operational costs, benefiting the environment.

The data centre will also implement top-tier security measures including quantum security, advanced firewalls, and encryption technologies. Robust disaster recovery solutions will ensure data integrity and business continuity.

As the website Data Centre Dynamics points out, details on location, specifications, development timelines, investment amounts or end customers were not shared in the announcement.

It adds that in May Aurum announced the launch of its US$250 million global private equity fund plan, closing Q1 2024. At the time the company said it had allocated US$50 million to Hyderabad in Telangana in India for the "development of cutting-edge data centres".
