With Mobile World Congress 2023 approaching at the end of this month, the GSMA has announced the shortlist for the GLOMO Awards – with Developing Telecoms once again sitting on the judge’s panel for the ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets’ category.
This award recognises genuine innovation in mobile initiatives, programmes, products, apps, services and devices that are having a tangible effect on the accessibility and vitality of digital economies in emerging markets.
Developing Telecoms’ mission is to highlight the positive impact of telecoms in emerging markets – and the innovation required to achieve this. Our publisher Alec Barton has been a judge in this GLOMO category for several years now, and we’d like to thank the GSMA for acknowledging our expertise and passion in this field.
There are some heavyweight contenders in the category this year, with Airtel touting its IoT-based digital payments programme, Huawei’s easy-to-install green rural broadband sites, MTN and Ericsson’s Open API for digital payments in Africa, VEON’s digital health platform in Bangladesh and Ukraine, and Yabx and Orange’s digital credit initiative to help users in Africa afford smartphones.
The GLOMO award winners will be announced at Mobile World Congress 2023. The full shortlist can be viewed here.
