Batelco designates Nokia as sole supplier for private 5G rollouts

Nokia announced on Sunday it has signed an exclusive partnership agreement with Bahrain operator Batelco, part of the technology-focused Beyon Group, to deliver mission-critical private 5G networks across Bahrain.

Under the agreement terms, Batelco will develop private 5G infrastructure leveraging Nokia’s Private Wireless portfolio to enable multiple use cases across different industries. The MoU also designates Nokia as the sole supplier of private wireless infrastructure across Bahrain.

Nokia technologies to be used include its Modular Private Wireless (MPW) solutions for LTE and 5G and its Digital Automation Cloud (DAC), which promises seamless 4G/5G coverage and deterministic connectivity performance. Nokia will also provide edge computing capabilities, value-added applications and ruggedized industrial devices.

Batelco CEO Maitham Abdulla said the company’s 5G private wireless solutions will enable mission-critical industries in Bahrain to unlock new revenue streams, improve their operational KPIs and seek higher standards for health and safety in their operational environment.

“The availability of high-performance connectivity solutions will initiate a new era of network usage, transforming worker safety outcomes, fostering innovation, and increasing revenue streams across diverse sectors,” he said in a statement.

Deployment is scheduled for the second half of 2024.
