Nokia and Ericsson win 5G contracts with A1 in the Balkans

A1 Telekom Austria Group has chosen Ericsson and Nokia as equipment suppliers for its 5G network deployments in Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.

The markets will be shared between the two vendors: in Bulgaria, Nokia will deploy the radio network and Ericsson the core network, in Croatia Ericsson will oversee both radio and core, while Nokia will deploy radio and packet core networks in Serbia and Slovenia.

"By selecting the two network suppliers Nokia and Ericsson…we took the decision to evolve our networks and services once more…providing the best user experience in terms of communications and entertainment services on a high-class and secure infrastructure to our B2C and B2B customers. At the same time, we are taking a strong stand on virtualization, automation and simplification of our network architecture", said Alexander Kuchar, Director Group Technology & Future Services, A1 Telekom Austria Group.

A1 has laid out a five-year plan to connect all major populated locations and main transport routes in these markets, delivering 5G connectivity to rural areas as well as metropolitan cities, as well as across industry verticals.
